JFK terminal map
JFK has five active terminals (1, 4, 5, 7 and 8) arranged around one loop road, linked only by the AirTrain. There is no walking between them. This is how they sit relative to each other, and how long it takes to move between them.

How long does it take to get between JFK terminals?
Moving between JFK terminals takes under 10 minutes on the AirTrain, which is free between terminals and runs every 5 to 15 minutes. Allow longer than the ride itself: you have to walk to the AirTrain station, wait for the train, and walk into the next terminal, so budget 30 minutes door to door, and more if you have to clear security again. Terminal changes at JFK almost always mean a second security screening, because the terminals are not connected airside.
Where does the AirTrain go besides the terminals?
Beyond the terminal loop, the AirTrain serves Jamaica Station (subway E, J, Z and the LIRR), Howard Beach (subway A), Federal Circle (rental cars and hotel shuttles) and Lefferts Boulevard (long-term parking). Rides that leave the airport loop are paid; rides between terminals are not. Parking options and what they really cost are on the park at JFK without overpaying page.
